Portrait of Monet
This striking portrait of the famous painter Claude Monet was painted by John Singer Sargent in 1887. Sargent was considered to be one of the leading portrait painters of his time, but he was only recognised as such in the late 20th Century. This painting was probably painted at Monet’s home at Giverny, France. Monet advised Sargent on colour choices in his landscape paintings, and they worked alongside each other on many occasions.
