Sarah Featon was a pioneering botanical artist from New Zealand, known for her work on “The Art Album of New Zealand Flora”. Born in 1848 in England, she moved to New Zealand and married Edward Featon in 1870. Together, they created the first full-colour art book in New Zealand, which showcased native flowering plants and included descriptions of their uses by Māori. Sarah’s detailed watercolours and Edward’s text aimed to debunk the myth that New Zealand lacked flowers, making a significant contribution to the country’s botanical literature.
